Funmi Akingbade the founder of Couples Alive International [CAFI] is a marriage and sex therapist for over 20years. She is the first female minister in Nigeria to boldly author a bestseller on sex between the married couples from an Africa perspective, using the mass media and written materials to broadcast the topic to both the religious and secular world.
She has an academic foundation in nursing, with a wide working experience in various government teaching and private hospitals; she is a graduate of Word of Faith Bible Institute [WOFBI]. And presently a student of International institute of transformation. The Advanced Oak Seed Executive Leadership Course in Beulah Heights University Atlanta Georgia U.S.A. She aptly deploys her wide nursing experience with her ministerial skill nationally and internationally.
In 1996 she started a 30 – minute program for couples, tagged ‘Do to Yourself’ a forum which gave birth to diverse testimonies in the homes and families of participants. This gradually metamorphose into a telecast ‘intimacy in marriage’ this TV programme feature different segments aimed at assisting couples make the most of their marriage, such as ‘sharing of the week’ [a brief talk on creating more intimacy in marriage], ‘couple of the week’ [inviting eminent, renowned famous and prominent couples to expose the secret of their outstanding relationship], couples health corner, sex and the married [helpful hints and treats to spice the marital bed]. The programme has been on air since 2002 on various TV stations NTA Channel 10 in 2002, GTV, MCTV, and TIME TV amid the years 2004 – 2006.
A popular columnist of ‘Sex and Sexuality, a weekly article in one of the widest read newspapers in Nigeria, the Saturday’s Punch.
In 1998 she published her first work on marriage titled ‘sexual intimacy in marriage, an award winning book with a print run of well over 18000 copies, in print and circulation in mid 2004 she launch her second book ‘when singles mingle’ with well over 3000 copies in circulation, ‘the romantic gospel with well over 3000 copies in circulation, also Home on the word with well over 2000 copies in circulation and ‘spiritual protocol for increase’ in addition she is presently working on another breath-taking book tagged ‘sex and sexuality’ [a complete compilation of all the articles on her column ‘Sex and Sexuality’ from inception] with the first volume already in circulation available in all Nigeria leading bookshops.
Presently she has embarked on a popular radio programme title ‘pillow talk show’ which has been aired since October 2009 in some of the national radio stations in the country.
